This is a review of a split album from 2 bands from Germany Agael and Lebensnacht called "Apathologie" which was released by Naturmacht Productions and we will start of the review the review with Agael a band that mixes black metal with dark ambient.
Synths bring a very atmospheric and dark ambient sound to the music, while the drumming ranges from slow to mid paced drumming with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced ambient black metal riffs that are very dark, raw and primitive sounding along with some melody being thrown into the riffing as well as a brief use of soft and clean playing that brings more ambient elements into the music, while t he lead guitars are very melodic sounding post black metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking to enhance the darkness that is coming out of the music.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams with some spoken word samples, while the lyrics are written in German and cover dark themes and depressive themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Agael are a very great sounding hybrid of black metal and dark ambient and if you are a fan of this style of music, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Vom Nightsein" and "Die Letzte Geburt". RECOMMENDED.
