This is a review of a split between Scotland's Frozen Dandylions and England's Overgrown which was released by Cloister Recordings in 2013 and we will start of the review with Frozen Dandylions a band that combines drone with black metal.
Drums range from slow to mid paced playing with no fast drumming or blast beats being present on this recording, while the sound effects bring elements of dark ambient and drone to the recording, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced raw and primitive sounding black metal riffs that combine elements of drone in the riffing to create a sound of their own along with some shoegaze elements and there are no guitar solos or leads present on their side of the recording, as for the acoustic guitars they use finger picking and full chords to enhance the dark atmosphere of the recording.
Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams that have a very depressive tone to them at times, while the lyrics cover dark themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound to it with the song being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Frozen Dandylions are a very great sounding hybrid of primitive black metal and drone and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED.
Next up is Overgrown a band that plays a nature orientated form of atmospheric black metal.
