Ekpyrosis are a 1 man band from Germany that plays a very avant garde form of depressive black metal and this is a review of their 2013 ep "Firmanent/Reise" which was released by Zeitgeister.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown into the music, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast raw and primitive sounding riffs that combine depressive black metal with avant garde music to create a sound of their own and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.
Vocals are mostly high pitched depressive black metal screams and cries with a brief spoken word part, while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, as for the production it has a very heavy, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Ekpyrosis are a very great sounding raw and primitive avant garde, depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Reise". RECOMMENDED BUY.
