Nyx are a band from Italy that plays a very fast, raw and melodic form of blakc metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Hairesis" which was released by Vacula Productions.
Melodic Gregorian chants and choirs start off the album and after the intro the music goes into a very fast and raw black metal direction along with a great amount of grim, high pitched screams and blast beats and the music has a Swedish vibe to it at times and the songs also bring in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Death metal growls can be heard in certain sections of the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and some of the riffs also add a decent amount of dark sounding melodies to the recording and when guitar solos and leads are utilized they are very dark and melodic while they only are used briefly in some of the tracks and as the album progresses Gregorian chants do make a return while the main focus remains more on a heavier musical style which also brings in a thrash influence at times and one of the tracks also adds spoken word parts onto the recording.
Nyx plays a style of black metal that is very fast and raw in the Swedish tradition while also having a decent amount of melodies and Gregorian chants that make the music have more of a dark atmosphere, the production sounds very powerful and heavy while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover dark and blasphemous themes.
In my opinion Nyx are a very great sounding fast and raw black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hairesis" "Aliguam Hortabantar Mori" and "Obnubilator Incesto Semen". 8 out of 10.
