Thormesis are a band from Germany that plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Trummerfarben" which will be released in February by MDD Records.
Classical guitar playing starts off the album and stringed instruments are also used briefly while the synths gives the music more of an atmospheric feeling and after the intro the music goes into more of a heavier and melodic musical direction while also introducing high pitched black metal screams that also have a depressive tone at times.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw black metal feeling and the guitar solos and leads bring in more of a melodic style along with the songs also bringing in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and also mix in elements of classic rock and acoustic guitars are also included on some of the later tracks and clean singing vocals are also used briefly and they add in a touch of pagan metal when they are utilized and there is also a small amount of spoken word parts on some of the songs and synths make a return on the outro.
Thormesis plays a style of pagan/black metal that is very raw while also taking it into more of a melodic direction and adding in elements of classic rock to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in German and cover life, personal feelings and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Thormesis are a very great sounding pagan/black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Trummerfarben" "Die Klagen Der Einode" and "Im Herbst Trugen Sie Mich Fort". 8 out of 10.
