Sorcier Des Glacies are a band from Quebec, Canada that plays a very raw and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Un Nonde de Glace et de Sang" which was released by Obscure Abhorrence Productions.
Melodic guitar leads and solos start off the album while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams.
At times the music also gets very atmospheric sounding while most of the tracks are very long and epic in length. Spoken word parts are also added into some parts of the recording along with the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody and the songs also add in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
The songs also add in a decent mixture of both old school and modern influences along with some tracks also adding in a small amount of classical guitars and clean playing, as the album progresses the band also brings in a cover version of Necromantia's "The Warlock" as well as a later song also adding in some melodic chants and piano's can also be heard on the closing track which is also an instrumental. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in a mixture of French and English and cover hatred against humanity, in a post apocalyptic world where nature has regained its nature over Man.
In my opinion Sorcier Des Glacies are a very great sounding raw and atmospheric black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Crossing the Haunted Forest" "Night-Dark Winds Of Evil" and "(Return To The) Primitive Grandeur". 8 out of 10.
