Corpus Christii are a black metal band from Portugal that has been around for a long time and this is their newest release and their first on Moribund Records and I would describe their music as a chaotic form of black metal with a lot of variety and skill.
Drums on this recording utilize many different styles ranging from really fast blast beats and at times they got really slow when the music gets depressive, while the bass playing on this recording sounds really low in the mix and it has a dark sound that seems to follow the sounds of the guitars and drums.
Guitars on this recording are mostly rhythms that cover a lot of ground and their are some riffs that have a morbid sound that reminds me of the Isrealli black metal bands( not the white light bullshit, I am talking more about Satanic or Occultic bands like Arallu and Melescech) and there are a lot of fast riffs that are mixed with a lot of slow parts that remind me of the current suicidal black metal bands and early 90's doom metal.
Vocals on this unholy masterpiece seem to be really depressive screams mixed with some lower growls that remind me of some of the German dark metal bands of the mid 90's.
Lyrics on this release cover some different areas. At times they are depressing almost suicidal and then they are some praises to Satan. As for the production on this recording which was recorded at Ultra Sound Studio in Braga, Portugal and produced byB. Carboso and N.H. who also played all of the instruments and wrote all of the lyrics on this recording with some help from a session drummer during the Winter of 2007 it sounds really great and all of the instruments and vocals came out sounding brutal.
I would recommend this release to fans of suicidal black metal or fans of the more satanic stuff since this release covers both areas. My favorite tracks on this recording are Stabbed which has a really fast almost middle eastern sound and Heavenless Bliss which is a really depressive song with a lot of spoken word parts. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
