Nightbringer/Death And the Black Work/FullMoonProductions/2008 CD Review

Nightbringer are a black metal band from Colorado Springs, Colorado consisting of current and past members of Bellum, Rhune, Bestia Arcana, Mydwinter, Excommunion, Temple Of Not and Crypyic Harvest and this is their first full length after a couple of ep's and splits with Serpentium and I would describe their music as ritualistic and occultic Black metal.

Drums on this recording are very fast with a lot of blast beats and primal drumming mixed with some occasional slow parts that sound very doomy and the drummer utilizes a lot of variety, while the bass playing utilizes a lot of darkness to add to the music with it's down tuned pitch.

Guitars on this dark masterpiece are mostly rhythms that cover a lot of ground with  a lot of influences from a variety of different styles of black metal as well as doom metal which includes fast riffs along with a lot of slow and mid paced parts, while the leads sound very dark, droning and mysterious which makes the music sound very dark, melodic and occultic.

Keyboards when they are utilized are very dark and have a very ritualistic and atmospheric sound which gives the music a very dark ambient edge especially in the intros.

Vocals are mostly deep black metal grows with some occasional high pitched screams, as for the production on this recording it has an excellent sound and all of the instruments along with the atmosphere comes out sounding really good.

Lyrics on this recording deal with The Left Hand Path, Alchemy, Occultism and the darker side of the Qabala and I can hear inspiration from such great occultists as Michael W. Ford, Aliester Crowley, Kenneth Grant and Julius Evolva. In my opinion this is a really great album and one of the best I have heard from a Colorado band and this band also puts on a good live show when they do concerts out here. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
