Abysmal Oceans Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We are Abysmal Oceans, a triad of pure oceanic chaos, bringing forth the sound of True Maldivian Black Metal. Demoriel commands the vocals, Occultus Monolith wields the guitars, and Unholy One delivers the bass.

2. So far the band has released an ep, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical style that you went for on the recording?

Abysmal Oceans embodies the essence of True Maldivian Black Metal, a sub-genre of black metal resonating from desolate corners of the Maldives.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band has explored so far with the music?

We narrate a twist of Maldivian folklore that revolves around "Abysma," an oceanic entity whose wrath brings forth destruction upon the surface world.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Abysmal Oceans'?

The name 'Abysmal Oceans' represents the vast ocean that envelopes the tropical nation and the profound historical narratives upon which the band is established.

5. Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the ep cover?

The artwork represents Abysma and her dominion. Showcasing her might and power. The artwork was crafted by Taiki, a talented artist hailing from the Maldives.

6. Has the band done any live shows or open to the idea?

We are selective with live performances opting to maintain a calculated exclusivity. Live shows are crucial for any band to spread their distinctive sound and visual identity.

7. The band is from "Maldives', how would you describe the scene for black metal in your home country?

In the Maldives, the genre of black metal is thriving and evolving from its humble origins within the local metal community.

8. Currently the band is unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

We are currently not signed to any Record Label. But we are open to exploring promising opportunities.

9. On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?

The reception has been overwhelmingly positive thus far.

As devoted fans of black metal ourselves, the material we present in our EP is a direct reflection of our deep-rooted inspirations and passion for the genre. The sound deeply resonates with our audience.

10. When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Preparations are underway for the release of a single by late 2024, alongside ongoing production efforts for a full-length album.

Our anticipated studio session is set for early September 2024.

11. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We maintain a broad spectrum of creative liberty in our music. As long as the composition lies within the realms of black metal, it would suffice. Currently, we listen to a vast collection of extreme metal sub-genres. Our musical inspirations predominantly stem from the pioneers of the black metal genre, including bands such as Mayhem, Marduk and Dark Funeral and a few more.

12. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Our profound gratitude is extended to Krzysztof Klingbein for his exceptional drumming on the EP, to Fufoo for his lead guitar work on the track "Ascension," and to George Nerantzis for his skilled execution in the mixing and mastering of the EP.

We also wish to convey our deep appreciation to our supportive fans who give us the strength through the torrents of dark times
