Italy's solo project Sacrilegious Crown has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of a raw form of black metal with elements of doom metal and dark ambient and this is a review of his 2024 album "Observances Of The Apophatic Ordeal" which was released by Nithstang Productions.
Dark ambient style soundscapes and synths start off the album before going into a heavier direction while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. Elements of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs and some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length.
Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while some of the tracks also add in a small amount of clean playing. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very distorted style along with one song also adding in a brief use of clear chants. When t he music finally speeds up a small amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling, spoken word parts are also utilized briefly
On this recording Sacrilegious Crown brings out a very slow and raw form of black metal which also adds in some touches of dark ambient and doom metal. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover rituals, esotericism and darkness themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Sacrilegious Crown and if you are a fan of raw black, doom metal and dark ambient, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Osservanza I -Enshrined Soul" and "Osservanza V - Terristrial Stasis". 8 out of 10.
