Wyrd are a band from Finland that started out as being a more ambient sounding black metal band but evolved more into a dark/black metal band with a melodic doom metal edge with this recording and this is a review of their 2008 album "The Ghost Album" which was released by Kreation Records.
Drums range from slow to mid paced drumming with not much in the way of fast playing or blast beats, while the bass playing h as a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars, as for the synths which are only utilized briefly they bring a psychedelic and progressive rock sound to the music.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine black/dark metal with melodic doom metal with some soft and clean playing being utilized at times, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos and leads.
Vocals are mostly deep sounding black/melodic death metal screams along with a brief use of death metal growls and clean singing as well as a brief spoken word sample being utilized on the last song, while the lyrics cover darkness and nature themes, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound to it with some of the songs being long and epic in length in addition the last song is recorded live.
In my opinion Wyrd are a very great sounding melodic dark/black metal hybrid and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "My Ghost" and "Dark Water". RECOMMENDED BUY.
