A Transylvanian Funeral are a 1 man band from Indiana that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style on this ep that I would describe as being atmospheric, raw and primitive sounding occult black metal and this is a review of their 2010 ep "WarWolf" which was released by Forbidden Records.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being utilized at times, while the bass playing has a very strong and dark tone with primitive riffing that dominates throughout the recording, as for the synths they are onlu utilized briefly and bring a very dark, avant garde and occult sound to the music.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast atmospheric sounding raw and primitive black metal riffs with some dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing at times with one of the songs having a death metal edge to it and there are no guitar solos or leads present on this recording, as for the acoustic guitars which are only utilized briefly they use finger picking and full chords to enhance the darkness that is coming out of the music .
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams as well as some as a brief use of angry shouting that gives the music a thrash metal feeling in addition there is a spoken word ritualistic sample being utilized on a couple of songs, while the lyrics cover Occultism, Crowley, Darkness and War, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound while you can still hear all of the musical instruments on this recording with a couple of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion this was another great sounding recording from A Transylvanian Funeral and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Ghoul Rising From The Grave" and "To Die In The Dark". RECOMMENDED BUY.
