Niroth are a band from the U.K that plays a very diverse form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2006 album which was released by Bad Head Records.
"Twelve" starts off with some sound effects until the drums and melodic black metal riffs make their presence known which leads to faster drums, more primitive riffing and high pitched yet grim black metal screams before reverting back to the opening riff and switching back and forth to slow and fast while also introducing the bass guitars, after awhile the song goes into a more mid paced direction for awhile before the blast beats ad faster riffs make their return while also slowing down so the melodies can sound more powerful and the song closes with some dark ambient synths.
"Seventeen" starts off with a powerful bass line strong drums and riffs that bring the gap between progressive and black metal together which in returns leads to the screams making their presence known, around the 2 minute mark the song goes into a softer direction with some clean playing while still utilizing grim black metal elements until going in a heavier direction that seemd to be influenced by Opeth but much more darker which leads to some powerful blast beats and primitive guitar riffing which blend in with the slower parts while also introducing depressive black metal screams along with the song closing with dark experimental sounds.
"Fifteen" starts off with some slow drumming, powerful bass playing, slow and melodic black metal guitar riffs before shifting to blast beats and rawer riffs which also brings in the grim screams before going back to the slower beginnings and introducing atmospheric elements as well as switching back and forth between the slow and fast parts with most of the focus being on the slower elements throughout the rest of the song which closes with ambient sound effects.
"Eleven" starts off with a more traditional sounding black metal riff before the drums make their presence known along with some powerful bass playing and the song starts mixing fast raw parts and mid paced atmospheres together which sets up the mood for the grim sounding screams while also utilizing a great amount of melody in the riffing, after awhile the song also mixes in some slow elements with the mid paced and fast parts of the tune and the song closes with some dark synths.
"Fourteen" starts off with melodic black metal guitar riffing, powerful drums and heavy bass playing which leads up to the grim screams while also keeping the mid paced atmospheres along with a semi blast beat until shifting off into a slightly faster direction for a few seconds before going into a slower, grimmer and melodic direction as well as speeding up at times and then closing up with synths and distorted effects.
Sixteen" starts off with slow drums, guitar and bass riffs which leads up to the introduction of the high pitched and grim screams before throwing in the blast beats and faster atmospheric black metal riffing while also retaining a great amount of melody before returning to the slower elements of the song which also starts combining clean and distorted guitar parts together which sets up the pace for the faster and primitive parts making a return to the song while also keeping the slow and mid paced parts around for more variety with the focus being more on the slower and atmospheric riffs which also utilize some progressive elements
Song lyrics cover paraphysics, psychic terror and hate, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and dark sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this album with the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Niroth are a very great sounding original and diverse black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Twelve" "Eleven" and "Sixteen". RECOMMENDED BUY.
