Wild's Reprisal are a 1 man band from Oregon that plays a very atmospheric form of cascadian black metal and this is a review of their self released 2012 album "Cascadia Rising".
"A Fierce Green Fire Dying In Her Eyes" starts off with animal sounds before going into atmospheric black metal guitar riffing and drums and after awhile grim sounding screams start making their presence known which leads to some melodic guitar leads shortly after that before switching to a more fast and primitive direction along with some blast beats and then s witching back and forth between slow, mid paced and fast parts and you can hear the bass guitars getting more powerful as the song moves on as well as the riffs being more diverse,
"Transpersonal "Ecology" starts off with some slow, primitive black metal guitar riffing and drums along with some distorted bass playing and after awhile post black metal melodies make their presence known as well as setting up the mood for the scream sounding screams and as the song moves on the riffing gets alot more diverse before going into a more mid paced direction while also returning to the slower elements at times as well as utilizing more melody.
"Tragedy Of The Commons" starts off with fast, primitive old school black metal guitar riffs and drums along with the grim screams kicking in shortly after that and as the song moves on you can hear some melody in the riffing, a round the 2 minute mark the song starts adding in animal growls and slower guitar riffing while also still utilizing the melody and screams and after a few minutes it goes into a mid paced direction while also slowing down at times.
"Ecosophy T" starts off with heavy guitar riffing and drums along with some post black metal melodies being thrown into the background and after a minute grim screams start making their way in the song and after awhile their use a variety of many different styles of riffs being utilized along with some fast primitive riffing and blast beats which leads to the music switching back and forth between slow, mid paced and fast.
"Unpolluted, Uncontaminated, Unnamed" starts off with guitar distortion, bass playing and drums which leads to some spoken word parts and after a couple of minutes heavy guitars make their presence known in the song along with some post black metal melodies staying in that direction for awhile before some grim black metal screams find their way in and shortly after that blast beats start mixing in with the riffing as well as switching back and forth between slow and mid paced sections, around the 8 minute mark bass replaces regular guitars and gets mixed in with sounds of nature which also leads to the heavier parts making their return and closing the song.
"Silent Spring" starts off with nature sounds which in return leads to acoustic guitars which utilizing both finger picking and full chords as well as mixing in folk elements and it sets the pace for screams to come in and make their presence known, the song stays in that direction for awhile before mixing in some electric guitars in while also keeping in t he acoustics and mixing in diverse elements in t he riffing and towards the end spoken word parts close in close the song.
Song lyrics cover Ecology, and based on many different essay's from various authors, while the production has a very heavy, raw and primitive sound with most of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Wild's Reprisal are a very great sounding atmospheric, cascadian black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Fierce Green Fire Dying In Her Eyes" and "Tragedy Of The Commons". RECOMMENDED BUY.
