Anakeion are a 1 man band from France that plays an atmospheric form of black/dark metal with symphonic elements and this is a review of his 2013 album "Ghooric Zone" which was released by Katabaz Records.
The album starts out with some symphonic synths and grim black metal vocals and a minute alter programmed drum beats are added onto the album and when the album goes into the second later melodic black metal guitars are added into the music.
As the album progresses it starts adding in a small amount of classical guitars while still focusing more on heavy and symphonic parts and the guitars also bring in elements of melodic death metal and have as much power as the synths with the album being more rooted in metal than most bands of this genre which usually focus more on synths which also bring in a lot of dark ambient and epic elements to the recording which you can also hear on the 2 instrumentals where they take over and when solos are added into the recording they enhance the dark black metal qualities of the record.
Anakeion bring in a different approach to this genre instead off being a copy of Summoning Or Fear of Eternity they he used a little bit more guitar and melodic death metal sound while also taking influences from the previously mentioned 2 bands and creates his own musical style.
Song lyrics cover dark themes along with some of the lyrical content based on the writings of H.P Lovecraft, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy, dark and epic sound with none of the songs going past 5 minutes.
In my opinion Anakeion are a very great sounding atmospheric dark/black metal project with some symphonic elements and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Into the Ghooric Zone" "The Shapeless Messenger" and "The Altar Of Madness". 8 out of 10. http://anakeion.bandcamp.com/album/ghooric-zone
