Anomalie are a 1 man band from Sweden that plays a mixture of black metal, post metal and depressive rock and this is a review of his 2014 album "Between The Light" which will be released by the end of January by Art Of Propaganda.
The album starts out with post rock sounds and drum programming as well as some acoustic guitars before going into a heavier direction along with black metal screams and post metal solos as well as adding in fast and raw guitar riffs which bring in some old school elements but sticking mostly to a slow or mid paced direction which bring s in a very dark and depressive feeling as well as having a good amount of melody.
When the album goes into the next song there is some violent samples from a news broadcast and then the music goes into a more melodic post black metal direction while also mixing in more traditional BM elements and the acoustic guitars when they start coming in bring in more melancholy to the recording and when t hey go into other songs they seem to find the perfect balance between DSBM and post rock along with a small amount of melodic female vocals and spoken word parts.
When the album goes into the fourth song the fast old school parts are vanish for a short time and the music starts sticking to a slower yet still depressive direction as well as having a more modern sound as well as adding a more melodic and grim approach to the vocals at times and they also bring in synths on the 5th song while also bringing back some of the faster riffing and on the last song they take a Nine Inch Nails cover and add to their own depressive approach to it.
Anomalie shows a lot of diversity with this record he takes influences from both old school and depressive black metal and also adds in a good amount of melody as well as influences from post metal and depressive rock to create his own sound.
Song lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful and dark sound along with some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Anomalie are a very great sounding mixture of black metal, post metal and depressive rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Blinded" and "Recall To Life". 8/5 out of 10.
