This is a review of another recording from Cara Neir which sees the band mixing black metal, crust, sludge, doom, post metal, hardcore and screamo together with the album being called "Portals To A better, Dead World" which was released as a joint effort between Broken Limb Recordings and Halo Of Flies.
The album starts out with a more post hardcore sound before speeding up a bit and adding in high pitched black metal screams along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and after awhile a mixture of slow and fast parts are added into the music as well as adding in some melodies.
When we get more into the album the music starts taking on a post black metal sound while also mixing in hardcore, crust and screamo and after awhile sludge, doom metal and drone traces are added into the recording and in certain sections of the recording the music gets very fast along with some programmed blast beats and on one of the tracks their is a brief use of cello before adding in some depressive black metal elements and deeper vocals as well as bringing in a small amount of guitar solos and leads and on the last track there is a brief use of melodic clean singing female and male vocals being utilized briefly and th e album closes with some spoken word parts.
With this album Cara Neir continues their tradition of not repeating themselves and they bring in more black metal elements this time around while still having influences from crust, hardcore, screamo sludge, doom and post metal as well as putting a great amount of melody and emotion into their music.
Song lyrics cover darkness and despair themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and dark sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording as well as some of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Cara Neir and if you are a fan of post black metal that also mixes in influences from other genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Peridot" "Dust Collector" and "Exalting The Shadow Proprietor". 8 out of 10.
