Cara Neir are a band from Dallas, Texas that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style that mixes raw black metal with crustcore and this is a review of their self released 2009 ep "Part One".
The ep starts out with a raw crust sound along with some growls before adding in more black metal elements along with blast beats and high pitched screams which leads up to the music evolving more into blackened crust along with a mixture of slow and fast parts as well as bringing in melody and guitar leads.
As the ep progresses the black metal elements take over a bit more along with the bass guitars having a more powerful sound to them and you can also hear some thrash and post metal influences being utilized at times and on one of the tracks you can also hear some traces of depressive black metal and the band never forgets its crust roots and on the last track which is an outro they bring in drones.
On this ep Cara Neir created their raw blackened crust sound that they are known for while their music was a lot more closer to raw black metal on this recording and this is only the start of what was to come.
Song lyrics cover darkness, horror and pissed off themes, while the production has a very raw and heavy sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion this was a very great sounding recording from Cara Neir and if you are a fan of raw black metal mixed with crust, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "From Dunwich" "Dear Dream" "Antihuman Plateau" and "Watered Down Insomniac". 8 out of 10.
