Ignis Haereticum are a band from Columbia that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Luceferian Gnosis" which was released by Goathorned Productions.
A silent sound starts off the album before getting more distorted and atmospheric with guitars kicking in and demonic growling vocals and you can also hear some melody in the bands musical sound and the music starts to go more into a black metal direction and after the intro the music starts going into a very fast, heavy and raw black metal direction along with some blast beats and deep grim screams.
You can hear a great amount of talent and skill in the way the band composes their music and a good portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length and after awhile the band starts bringing in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also brings in a great amount of dark sounding melodies.
All of the music on the recording focuses more on a modern occult black metal and proves that you do not have to rehash the old school sound to create a very grim and ritualistic atmosphere and a great amount of the riffing brings a very technical feeling to the album at times and the spoken word parts and whispers when they are added in enhances the ritualistic elements of the bands musical style which also brings in a brief use of melodic Gregorian chants on one of the tracks, while the music is very diverse as well as adding in a small amount of clean playing on one of the tunes it is still some of the most extreme black metal you can find out there and when solos and leads are utilized they are very dark and melodic sounding.
Ignis Haereticum plays a style of occult black metal that is very original, diverse and brings in a great amount of talent and skill as well as being very ritualistic at times and with their music I can see them being considered a very important band for this genre in the next few years, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Luciferian Gnosis, Occultism and Death Worship themes along with a touch of Egyptian Magick.
In my opinion Ignis Haereticum are a very great sounding occult black metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mysterium Fidei" "Luciferian Gnosis" and "Exercitatus Spiritualium". 8/5 out of 10.
