Iubaris are a band from Poland that plays a very progressive and avant garde form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 album "Code".
Clean playing and acoustic guitars starts off the album along with an atmospheric background and the music also sound s very progressive and after the intro the music starts to go into more of a heavier black metal direction while also bringing in a good amount of melody as well as retaining all of the progressive parts.
Vocals when they are added into the music are very grim sounding black metal screams and in the faster sections you can also hear a good amount of blast beats along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and the band also brings in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
After awhile the music starts to alternate between both clean and heavy parts and the solos and leads the band uses brings in more melody to their musical style and as the album progresses melodic clean singing can be heard in certain sections of the recording and they also help take the music into more of an avant garde direction while some of the faster sections bring in more of a raw black metal sound at times while the main focus remains more on a progressive style.
Iubaris plays a style of black metal that is very progressive with some avant garde elements while also remaining very dark and heavy as well as having a more original approach to this genre than most bands, the production sounds very powerful for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Iubaris are a very great sounding progressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Odium" "What Is Lost To Be Found" and "Eternity From Ashes". 8 out of 10.
