Krater are a band from Germany that plays a very raw and misanthropic form of black metal with elements of doom and death metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Urere" which will be released in February by Eisenwald.
A very dark, atmospheric and ritualistic synth sound starts off the album along with some distorted parts in the background as well as the sounds of water which also leads up to spoken word parts being added into the music which also leads to the music going into a very fast and raw musical direction.
Blast beats can be heard in the faster sections of the music along with some angry shouts and grim black metal screams while the solos and leads can also be both chaotic and melodic all at the same time and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the sounds on the intro also return in certain sections of the recording.
At times the vocals get semi melodic as well as adding in spoken shouts briefly and a couple of the tracks are long and epic in length and some songs also add in doom and death metal elements as well as adding in the more extreme side of modern black metal at times and the solos and leads also demonstrate a great amount of talent and skill and some songs also have an atmospheric feeling to them and there is also a brief use of whispered vocals.
Krater plays a style of black metal that can be very raw, and aggressive at times while also adding in a touch of doom and death metal to create a very dark yet heavy sounding recording, the production sounds very dark yet heavy at the same time while the lyrics are written in German and cover Misanthropic and Luciferian themes.
In my opinion Krater are a very great sounding raw and misanthropic black metal band with elements of doom and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Non Serviam" "Anti-Visits" "Vexillum Luciferi" and "Lust To Burn". 8 out of 10.
