Ab Eterno are a band from Guatemala that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Fucking Bastards" which was released by Black Empire Records.
Black metal screams start off the album before going into a very heavy thrash influenced song while also keeping the vocals and when the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can be heard and the riffs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking that also gives the music more of a raw style.
When synths are added into the music they give the songs more of an atmospheric and ambient feeling along with a variety of many different sounding keys and there are mostly used for intros and outros as well as also being brought into one of the regular songs while the main focus remains more on a heavy and raw style that also brings in a great amount of melodies at times while some songs also have more of a depressive feeling to them and there is also a brief use of melodic guitar leads and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording and on the bonus track they add in more symphonic touches.
Ab Eterno creates an album that has some of the raw style of their previous recording while also adding in more synths, ambient and depressive elements to take their style to the next level, the production sounds very powerful while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Ab Eterno and if you are a fan of raw and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Liar" and "Killing Myself". 8 out of 10..
