WOM (Winds Of Mayhem) are a solo project from Cyprus that plays a very raw form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "From Abyss, Thy Wrath" which was released by Metal Mayhem Records.
A very heavy sound starts off the album along with some melodic guitar leads a few seconds later along with some drum beats and you can also hear some atmospheric sounds in the background at times and the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams and when the music speeds up a small amount of programmed blast beats can be heard.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a couple of the tracks being very long and epic in length and the music is mostly rooted in the 90's second wave style of black metal while t he fast riffs use a great amount of tremolo picking and there is one track where clean guitars are added onto the recording while the remaining tracks show the music going back into a heavier direction.
WOM plays a style of black metal that is very raw in the 90's second wave tradition while also having its atmospheric moments, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Anti Christianity, Anti Humanity, Misanthropy and Norse Culture.
In my opinion WOM are a very great sounding raw black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sunlight Fever" "An Infant Of Abyss" and "Darkness, They Beauty". 8 out of 10.
