This is a review of a split album between Germany/Finland's Order of Nosferat and Greece's Lunar Spells called "Shadowrealm Incantations" which will be released in June by Purity Through Fire and we will start off the review with order Of Nosferat who return with their raw, old school and vampyric style of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some dungeon synth style synths which also return on later songs before going into a heavier direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
A couple of their tracks are also long and epic in length along with a couple of the songs also being instrumentals and most of the music sticks to a mid tempo direction. and on a couple of tracks there is a brief use of fast tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover vampirism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Order of Nosferat and if you are a fan of raw, old school and vampyric black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Scars of Nocturnal Tears" and "Bloodthirst And Morbid Lust".
Next up is Lunar Spells who return with their old school style of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a synth orientated intro before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also utilizes a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music is heavily rooted in the old school tradition.
All of the musical instruments on their side of the split also have a very powerful sound to them along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts, a small amount of melody can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, despair, misanthropy and hate themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Lunar Spells and if you are a fan of old school black metal, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Malefic Incarnation".
In conclusion I feel this a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of raw, old school and vampyric black metal. 8 out of 10.
