Ancient Guard are a solo project from Australia that plays an atmospheric and old school form of black metal and this is a review of his 2024 ep "Nightfall Enthroned" which will be released in June by Iron Bonehead Productions.
A very dark, heavy and atmospheric sound starts off the ep while synths also mix in with the heavier sections of the songs at times. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the tracks more of a r aw feeling and the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched sounding black metal screams.
Most of the music is very heavily rooted in the mid 90's era while almost all of the songs are also very long and epic in length. Throughout the recording you can also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some clean playing and clear vocals also being utilized on a few tracks, when guitar solos and leads are utilzied they are also done in a very melodic style and the closing song is an acoustic instrumental.
Ancient Guard plays a style of black metal that is very atmospheric and old school in t he late 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover mysticism and darkness themes.
In my opinion Ancient Guard are a very great sounding atmospheric and old school black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dominion Of Primordial Darkness" and "A Moonscape Abyss". 8 out of 10.
