Hellbutcher are a band from Sweden that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their self titled 2024 album which will b e released on May 31st by Metal Blade Records.
Melodic guitar solos and leads start off the album along with some heavy riffing a few seconds later. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of blast beats as well as the vocals being mostly high pitched black metal screams.
The songs also mix the first and second wave era's of the genre while also adding in some modern touches. Throughout the recording you an also hear a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them,.
Elements of thrash metal can also be heard at times as well as the tremolo picking and the fast riffing also giving the album more of a raw feeling when they are utilized and one track also adds in a brief use of clean playing and spoken word parts. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism Darkness and Destruction themes.
In my opinion Hellbutcher are a very great sounding old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Sword Of Wrath" "Hordes of the Horned God" and "Satan's Power". 8 /5 out of 10.
