Myrddraal/Blood On The Mountain/Decius Productions/2001 CD Review



Myrddraal are a band from Australia that plays a very raw, fantasy style and brutal form of black metal and this is a review of their 2001 album "Blood On The Mountain" which was released by Decius Productions.

Drums range from slow, midpaced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown in at times, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with raw and primitive black metal riffing that dominates throughout the whole entire album>

Rhythm guitars range from slow, midpaced to fast black metal riffs that are very raw and brutal sounding with a thrash feeling at times as well as an epic feel, while the lead guitars are very raw and primitive sounding black metal guitar leads and solos with some ocassional melodic parts, as for the accoustic guitars they use finger picking and full chords to bring a very dark atmosphere to the music.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams with some mournful cries and deep growls being thrown in at times as well as a brief use of clean singing vocals, while the lyrics are based on Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series, as for the production it has a very dark and raw sound to it but you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are presented on this recording.

In my opinion Myrddraal are a very good dark and raw sounding black metal band with an epic and fantasy feel and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Daughter Of The Night" "What Once Was" and "Blood On The Mountain". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Nox Intempesta/Dammanus Dominum/Folter Records/1999 CD Review


  Nox Intempesta where  a band from Germany that played a very fast and brutal form of black metal with a death metal edge and this is a review of their 1999 album "Dammanus Dominum" which was released by Folter Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown in at times, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with riffs that combine influences from both black and death metal and the instrument dominates throughout the recording.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffing that also combines influences from brutal death metal and thrash metal in addition to some melodic riffing being thrown in at times, while the lead guitars are very distorted sounding leads that combine death with black metal.

Vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and deep death metal growls with some spoken word ritual passages being used on the last song, while the lyrics are written in a mixture of German and English with themes that cover Satanism, Occultism, Darkness and Anti Christianity, as for the production it has a very dark and raw feel while still professional enough to the point where you can hear all of the musical instruments.

In my opinion Nex Inntempesta where a very good occultic/satanic black metal band with a death metal edge and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In Clairvoyant Flesh" "Coldstone Sacrificial" "De Bermis Mysteriis" and "Speculum Spagyria Satana". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Misanthropic Art/Homicides/Oskorei Music/2005 CD Review


Misanthropic Art are a band from Russia that plays a very raw, hateful, depressive and atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2005 album "Homicides" which was released by Oskorei Music.

Drums range from mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown in at times, while the keyboards bring a very dark and atmospheric feel to the music, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from mid paced to fast raw black metal riffs with some weird sounding melodies being thrown in at times, while the lead guitars are very distorted and dark, depressive sounding black metal guitar solos and leads.

Vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and deep growls with some mournful cries being thrown in at times, while the lyrics touch on war, hatred and anti-christian themes, as for the production it has a very dark and raw feeling to it.

In my opinion Misanthropic Art are a very good raw, hateful, depressive black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Birth Of Nuclear Winter" "Christ's Orgasmic Paranoia" and "Battlefields Of The Hellish Rising". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Godless North/Summon The Age of Supremacy/Breath Of Night Records/Merciless Records/2000 CD Review



Godless North where a band from Vancouver, B.C, Canada, that played a very raw form of heathen black metal and this is a review of their 2000 album "Summon The Age Of Supremacy" which was released as a joint effort between Breath Of Night and Merciless Records.

Drums range from mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats being thrown in, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very dark and raw sounding with some dark and epic sounding melodies being thrown in at times and there are little to no guitar solos or leads present on this recording.

Vocals are all grim sounding and high pitched black metal screams, while the lyrics touch on Heathenism,Paganism and Darkness, as for the production it has a very dark and raw sound to it.

Inmy opinion Godless North where a very good raw and dark sounding Heathen Black Metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dark Skies Over Vinland" "Upon Heathen Battlefields" and "Wisdom Of The Ancient Cults". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Root/Zjeveni & The Temple In The Underworld/Redblack/1999 CD Re-Issue Review



Root are a band from Czech  Republic that where a huge influence on the second wave of black metal with their dark atmospheric occult/satanic black metal and this is a review of a 1999 Cd-Compilation of 2 albums "Zjeveni & The Temple In The Underworld" and we will start of the review with the album "Zjeveni" which was originally released in 1990.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with the occasional blast beat , while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast early black metal riffing that had some of the death and thrash metal influences as well as some morbid sounding melodies that the genre had in the mid 80's and early 90's, while the lead guitars are mid 80's sounding black metal guitar solos, as for the classical guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking to bring a dark sound to the music.

Vocals are somewhat grim sounding black metal growls mixed in with a lot of demonic sounding voices and the occasional spoken word ritual passage as well as some clean singing being used briefly on a couple of songs, while the lyrics are written in their native tongue and cover Satanism, Occultism, Lovecraft and dark themes, as for the production it has a very raw and primal sound to it.


In my opinion this was a great album from Root and if you are interests in the roots of black metal, you should check out this recording and this is the best album on this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Prisen pro Satana" "666" "Demon" and "Cesta zkazy".

Next up is "The Temple In The Underworld" which was originally released in 1992.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats, while the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound, as for the piano which is only used on the intro and brings a tragic sound to the music in addition there are some dark synths being used on occasion throughout the album.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast mid 80's to early 90's black metal riffing that also utilizes melodies and traditional  and thrash metal influences, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding guitar solos, as for the acoustic guitars they bring a dark feeling to the music when they are utilized.

Vocals range from early grim sounding black metal screams mixed in with some clean singing and some spoken word passages, while the lyrics cover Occultism, Lovecraft and Darkness, as for the production it has a very dark and raw feel to it.

In my opinion this was a good album from Root and while it was a little bit more different and progressive than there earlier stuff, I still thought this was a good album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Temple In The Underworld" "The Old Ones" "Message" and "My Deep Mystery". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Katharsis/World Without End/Norma Evangelium Diaboli/2006 CD Review


Katharsis where a band from Germany that played a very chaotic and violent form of satanic/occult black metal and this is a review of their 2006 album "World Without End" which was released by Norma Evangelium Diaboli".

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast playing with a great amount of blast beats being thrown in, while the bass playing sounds very strong and powerful with some primitive black metal riffing, as for the synths they are only used briefly to enhance the chaos of the music.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very harsh, violent, chaotic and brutal with a thrash feeling at times, while the lead guitars are very chaotic sounding black metal guitar leads.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams mixed in with some mournful cries, while the lyrics touch on satanism, occultism, and darkness with a touch of Thelema and Chaos Magick, as for the production it has a very powerful and heavy feel where you can still hear of the musical instruments but retaining the raw and primal parts.

In my opinion Katharsis where a very good violent occult/satanic black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Wythdance" and "Kosmic Sacrifice". RECOMMENDED BUY.

Fog where a band from Fort Wayne, Indiana that played a very raw and brutal form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2001 album "Through The Eyes Of The Night...Winged They Come" which was released by WWIII Records.

Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful tone with riffs that dominate throughout the recording, as for the synths they are only used as an effect occasionally and bring a dark feel to the music.

Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast brutal black metal riffing that is also melodic at times, while the lead guitars when they are utilized briefly are very distorted sounding black metal guitar leads with not much in the way of solos, as for the acoustic guitars they are only used briefly to enhance the darkness of the music.

Vocals are all high pitched black metal screams with a brief use of a spoken word passage, while the lyrics cover Occultism, Necromancy, Medieval Mythology And Darkness, as for the production it has a very heavy, powerful and professional feel to the music.

In my opinion Fog where a very good raw and brutal occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this style, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "By This Axe We Rule" "Whispered Myths (OF Ancient Times)" and "The Storm Unholy"..RECOMMENDED BUY.
