Gargowitch are a solo project from France that plays a mixture of raw black, doom metal and noise and this is a review of his self released 2019 demo "Avidee".
Field recordings start off the album along with some clean playing a few seconds later and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length. The slow riffs also add elements of doom metal onto the recording while the vocals are mostly tortured yet grim and depressive black metal screams.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and at times the music gets very experimental sounding along with some elements of noise. In some parts of the recording the drums also start utilizing a lot more aggression as well as some distorted amp noises also being used briefly.
A brief use of demonic growls can also be heard while the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow and mid paced parts. At times the music also gets very ritualistic feeling while one track also adds a small amount of spoken word parts onto the recording, some of the tracks a re also instrumental and also evoke more of an improv atmosphere. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover Occultism and Paganism themes.
In my opinion Gargowitch is a very great sounding mixture of black, doom metal and noise and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Le bucher d'Agrile" and "Magique Holo". 8 out of 10.
