Forggoten Rite are a band from Brazil that plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their self released and self titled 2019 album.
Ritualistic sounding synths start off the album along with the sounds of wolfs howling and nature orientated soundscapes before going into a heavier direction. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams while the music also brings in influences from both the first and second wave eras of the genre.
Clean guitars can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling and the solos and leads when they are utilized are done in a more melodic style.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Synths are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the music at times while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with some spoken word parts also being used briefly and they close the album with a cover of Celtic Frost's "Dethroned Emperor". The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Satanism, Darkness, Death, Murder and Violence themes.
In my opinion Forggoten Rite are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Funeral under Ice" "Impaled Death" and "Merciless". 8 out of 10.
