This is a review of a split album between Germany's Abyss and Slovakia's Besna which will be released in September by Wolfmond Production and we will start off the review with Abyss a band that plays a melodic mixture of black and death metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark yet heavy sound while one of their tracks is also very long and epic in length. Vocals are a mixture of death metal growls and black metal screams along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in tremolo picking and blast beats.
Throughout their side of the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them as well as the music also being heavily rooted in the 90's Swedish style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in a mixture of English and Swedish and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Abyss are a very great sounding melodic mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Din Of Celestial Birds".
Next up is Besna a band that plays post black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some classical guitars an folk music elements while all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them. Melodies are also added into some of the guitar riffing along with the vocals being a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and deep growls and both of their tracks are very long and epic in length.
Semi melodic vocals are also utilized at times along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them. When guitar leads are utilized they also add in a great amount of melody as well as some blast beats also being added into the faster sections of the music, whispered vocals can also be heard briefly towards the end. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Slovakian and cover unfulfilled religious salvation themes.
In my opinion Besna are a very great sounding post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Jazero".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of melodic black/death metal and post black metal. 8 out of 10.
