Hræ are a solo project from Iceland that plays an experimental form of black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Þar sem skepnur reika" which will be released in September by Goathorned Productions.
Wind sounds start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the riffs also add in a decent amount of dissonant structures and melodies. Vocals also add in a mixture of deep growls and grim black metal screams and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a couple of the tracks also being very long and epic in length.
At times the music also gets very experimental sounding along with some clean playing also being added into certain sections of the recording. One track also introduces spoken word parts onto the album as well as the guitar leads also being done in a very distorted style. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Icelandic and cover darkness and isolation themes.
in my opinion Hræ are a very great sounding dissonant and experimental black metal solos project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Þar sem skepnur reika" "Tungur og Eiturský" and "Hafið yfirþyrmandi.". 8 out of 10.
