Verikyyneleet are a solo project that plays a very atmospheric and melancholic form of black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Ilman Kuolemaa" which will be released in August by I, Voidhanger Records.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album which also introduces melodic riffing onto the recording. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling and the solos and leads also add in a great amount of melody.
When synths are utilized they also enhance the atmospheric side of the music while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams. Throughout the recording you can also here a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with the music also having its depressive and melancholic moments. Some of the tracks also have brief interludes in between them as well as the synths also adding in some elements of ambient, some of tracks also introduces spoken word parts onto the recording and all of the drum beats are also programmed and a couple of the songs are also instrumentals. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Finnish and cover hatred, desolation and negativity themes,
In my opinio Verikyyneleet are a very great sounding atmospheric and melancholic black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mitaton elama" "Yhta luonon kansaa" "Tiavas kuolee, han elaa" and "Ajan haudalla". 8 out of 10.
