Null are a band from Iceland that plays a depressive and nihilistic mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Entity" which will be released in August by Van Records.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the album while the slower sections of the songs also bring in elements of doom metal. Clean vocals can also be heard in some parts off the recording which also adds more of a post metal style to the songs along with some depressive black metal screams also being utilized at times.
When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style. A couple of the tracks also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with most of the tracks also being very long and epic in length and dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing as well as the music also having its atmospheric moments, as the album progresses a brief use of classical guitars and synths can also be heard. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover futility and obsolescence themes.
In my opinion Null are a very great sounding atmospheric and nihilistic mixture of black and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "None" and "An Idiosyncratic Mirage". 8 out of 10.
