Vital Spirit are a duo from Vancouver B.C, Canada that plays a raw form of black metal with elements of western music and this is a review of their 2020 ep "In The Faith That Looks through Death" which will be released in August by Hidden Tribe.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the ep along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats while the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very raw yet melodic style and clean playing can also be heard at times.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while a small amount of melody is also added into some of the guitar riffing. Some of the clean playing also shows an influence of western music and the songs also add in a decent mixture of both old school and modern influences.
Vital Spirit plays a style of black metal that is very raw and melodic while also adding in touches of 60's era spaghetti western music to create a sound of t heir own. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Mayan Cosmology and History, Pancho Villa's role in the Mexican Revolution and Wovoka's Ghost Dance movement.
In my opinion Vital Spirit are a very great sounding mixture of raw black metal and spaghetti western music and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this duo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Heart Of Sky" and "Ghost Dance". 8 out of 10.
