Old Forest are a band from the U.K that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style I would describe as being raw and primitive sounding atmospheric black metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Tales From The Sussex Weald" which was released by D.T.M Productions.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with some blast beats being utilized at times, while the keyboards bring a very dark and atmospheric sound to the recording, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that are coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast old school black metal riffs that are very dark, raw and primitive sounding with some melody being thrown into the riffing at times, while the lead guitars are very raw and primitive sounding melodic black metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking to add some medieval elements to the music.
Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams with some clean singing being utilized at times as well as some spoken word parts being used at times, while the lyrics are based around a concept in the dark ages that involves satanic, witchcraft, anti christian and occult themes, as for the production it has a very dark, raw and primitive sound while you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Old Forest and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "At The Black Priory" "Friends Of Hekate" "The Devils Dyke" and "The Bury".
RECOMMENDED BUY.
