Stoic Dissention are a band from Colorado that plays a mixture of depressive black and doom metal and this is a review of their self released 2011 demo "Senium".
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming along with a brief use of blast beats, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful sounding with distorted doom metal riffing that dominates throughout the recording, as for the sound effects they are only used briefly and they bring a very dark and avant garde sound to the recording.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine depressive black metal with doom to create a sound of their own with a great amount of dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing as well as some soft and clean playing, while the lead guitars are very melodic sounding depressive black/doom metal guitar solos and leads.
Vocals range from grim sounding and high pitched black metal depressive screams, deep doom/death metal growls and some chanting as well as a brief use of clean singing, while the lyrics cover dark, depressive, philosophical and esoteric themes, as for the production it has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound to it while you can still hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording with the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Stoic Dissention are a very great sounding hybrid of depressive black metal and doom and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deception Of The Genuine Intellect" and "The Arcane Rites: The Bitter Sting Of A Knife In Sacrifice". RECOMMENDED BUY.
