Angmaer/Towards Darkness Paradise/UKEM Records/2015 CD Review

  Angmaer  are  a  1  man  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  a  very  raw  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "Towards  Darkness  Paradise"  which  will  be  released  in  May  by  UKEM  Records.

  Nature  sounds  start off  the  album  along  with  some  synths  being  utilized  in  the  background  and  after  the  intro  the  music  starts  adding  in  more  of  a  fast,  heavy  and  raw,  old  school  black  metal  sound  along  with  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  a  few  seconds  later  grim  yet  high  pitched  screams  start  becoming  a  huge  part  of  the  recording.

  Most  of  the  music  is  rooted  in  the  90's  style  of  black  metal  and  you  can  also  hear  a  great  amount  of  melody  in  the  guitar  riffing  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  along  with  the  songs  also  bringing  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.

    Some  of  the  songs  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length  and  also  add  in  acoustic  guitars  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording   along  with  some  spoken  word  parts  also  being  added  in  at  times  and  some  of  the  tracks  also  bring  in  a  trace  of  melodic  death  metal  and  thrash  and  some  of  the  songs  also  have  riffs  that  shave  an  early  underground  Norwegian  feeling  at  times  92-95  era  and  one  of  the  later  songs  also  brings  in  a  few  seconds of  clean  singing  which  is  actually over  shadowed  by  the  harsh  screams  and  when  solos  and  are  utilized  they  are  very  dark  and  melodic  and  the  album  closes  with  an  acoustic  instrumental.

  Angmaer  plays  an  old  school  style  of  black  metal  that  sounds  like  it  could  of  easily  been  recorded  and  released  more  than  20  years  ago  and  brings  in  a  perfect  balance  between  rawness  and  melody,  the  production  sounds very  raw,  old  school  yet  powerful  sounding  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  a  mixture  of  Norwegian  and  English  and  cover  Satanism,  Paganism  and  Anti  Religion  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Angmaer  are  a  very  great  sounding  raw  and  old  school  style  black  metal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Necromantic  Summoning"  and  "The  Rebirth  Of  Pagan  lands".  8  out  of  10.
