Bureviy are a band from Ukraine that plays a pagan form of black metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Concealed Beyond The Space" which will be released on March 22nd by Darker Than Black Records.
Nature and bird sounds start off the album along with some acoustic guitars and melodic chanting that gives the music a pagan folk music feeling and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them which also leads up to more of a fast and raw black metal direction that utilizes a great amount of blast beats and depressive screams.
Atmospheric sounds, pagan chanting, folk music elements and harsh black metal get mixed together quite a bit throughout the recording along with a great amount of melodic guitar riffs and leads and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Spoken word parts and whispers can be heard in certain sections of the recording and the nature sounds from the intro also make their return at times while the main focus remains mostly on a musical style that takes the raw side of 90's to early 2000's black metal being mixed in with melodic pagan metal.
Bureviy plays a musical style that takes a very raw from of black metal and mixes it with a more melodic, epic and atmospheric form of pagan metal along with a touch of folk music to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very heavy and powerful while the lyrics cover Paganism and Heathenism themes.
In my opinion Bureviy are a very great sounding pagan/black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In Bonds Of Waves" "The Lace Of The Norns" and "Gravstad". 8 out of 10.
