Apocalyptic Leaders/Exists In Chaos/Rat Covenant/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Greece's  solo  project  Apocalyptic  Leaders  has  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  more  of  an  atmospheric,  melodic  and  raw  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  2024  album  "Exists  In  Chaos"  which  will  be  released  on  June  21st  by  Rat  Covenant.

  A  very  heavy  and  aggressive  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  decent  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling  and  the  recording  also  add  in  a  lot  of  crust  elements.

  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  black  metal  screams  while  some  of  the  songs  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style  along  with  the  music  also  having  its  atmospheric  moments  and clean  playing  is  also  added  on  the  closing  track.

  On  this  recording  Apocalyptic  leaders  brings  out  a  very  raw,  modern,  melodic  and  atmospheric  style  of  black  metal.  The  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  chaos  themes.  

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from Apocalyptic  Leaders  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric,  melodic  and  raw  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "II"  "V"  and  "VIII".  8  out  of  10.

Einherjer/Deaf Forver/Indie Recordings/2024 Single Review

 

  Norway's  Einherjer  have  returned  with  a  new  song  where they cover a  classic  Motorhead  track  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  single  "Deaf  Forever"  which  will  be  released  on  June  21st  by  Indie  Recordings/

  A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  song  while  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.  Vocals  are  mostyl  grim  sounding  black  metal  screams  along  with  a  few  shouts  as  well  as  the  solos  and  leads  going  for  more  of  an  old  school  metal/hard  rock  style,  the  whole  track  sticks  to  a  mid  tempo  direction  and  the  production  also  sounds  very  professional.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  track  from  Einherjer  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this b and  and  Motorhead,  you  should  check  out  this  single.  8  out  of  10.

Vuur & Zijde/Boezem/Prophecy Productions/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Vuur  &  Zijde  are  a  band  from  the  Netherlands  that  has  had  music  reviewed  before  in  this  zine  and  on  this  recording  plays  an  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  with  elements  of  shoegaze,  post  punk  and  wave  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Boezem"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  Prophecy  Productions.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  while  also  adding  in  elements  of  80's  era  post  punk  and  darkwave.  Vocals  are  done  in  more  of  a  clean  style  along  with  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  decent  amount  of  blast  beats  and  raw  black  metal  tremolo  picking  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  atmospheric  sounding  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  post  metal  style.  Synths  are  also  utilized  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  along  with  the  riffs  also  bringing  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  as  well  as  the  songs  also  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts,  the  tracks  also  mix  in  a  lot  of  shoegaze  touches  as  well  as  one  song  also  adding  in  a  brief  use  of  spoken  word  parts.  

  On  this  recording  Vuur  &  Zijde  takes  an  atmospheric  form  of  post  black  metal  and  mixes  it  with  elements  of  shoegaze,  post  punk  and  wave  as  well  as  avoiding  the  use  of  harsh  vocals  to  create  something  very  original  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Dutch  and  cover  conditional  and  unconditional  love,   the  liberation  of  intimacy  and  motherhood.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Vuur  &  Zijde  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  atmospheric  post  black  metal  with  elements  of  shoegaze,  post  punk  and  wave,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Onbemind"  "Omheind"  "Nest"  and  "Naakt".  8  out  of  10.

ColdCell/Age Of Unreason/AOP Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Switzerland's  ColdCell  have  returned  with  a  new  recording  which  shows  the  music  going  for  a  very  dark  and  atmospheric  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Age  Of  Unreason"  which  will  be  released  in  July  by  AOP  Records.

  A  very  dark,  heavy  and  atmospheric  sound  starts  off  the  album  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Keyboards  can  also  be  heard  at  times  along  with  some  throat  singing  also  being  utilized  briefly  as  well  as  the  vocals  being  mostly  high  pitched  black  metal  screams  and  a  great  portion  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  When  the  music  speeds  up  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can  be  heard  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.  The  album  also  add  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  spoken  word  samples  also  being  utilized  briefly  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  clean  playing  is  also  added  on  some  of  the  tracks.

  At  times  the  music  also  gets  very  experimental  sounding  along  with  the  solos  and  leads  also  being  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  when  they  are  introduced  into  the  music  as  well  as  the  vocals  also  adding  in  more  of  an angry  shouting  approach  in  certain  sections  of  the  album,  female  vocals  can  also  be  heard  briefly.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  social  abyss  and  the  (un)reason  of  being.

  In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  ColdCell  and  if  you  are  a f an  of  dark  and  atmospheric  black  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hope  And  Failure"  "Solidarity  Or  Solitude"  and  "Discord".  8 ou  of  10.

Svartelder/Trenches/Soulseller Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

    Svartelder  are  a  band  from  Norway  that  plays  an  old  school  from  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Trenches"  which  will  be  released  in  August  by  Soulseller  Records.

  Clean  playing  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  grim  yet   high  pitched  sounding  black  metal  screams  a  few  seconds  later  which  also  takes  the  music  into  a  heavier  direction.  During  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast  beats  can b e  heard  which  also  gives  the  recording  more  of  a  raw  feeling .

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  also  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  riffs  also  add  in  a  decent  amount  of  melody.  Throughout  the  album  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  the  music  being  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  and  modern  at the  same  time,  when  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  melodic  yet  old  school  direction.

  Svartelder  plays  a  style  of  Norwegian  black  metal  that  is  very  atmospheric  and  old  school  as  well  as  mixing  in  some  modern  touches  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  Death,  Satanism  and  Norway  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Svartelder  are  a  very  great  sounding  old  school  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Psychotic  Symphony"  "The  Forgiving  Isolation"  and  "In  The  Trenches".  8  out  of  10.

Wormthrone/Enlightened Through Darkness/Larvae Records/2024 Full Length Review

 

  Wormthrone  are  a  band  from  Portugal  that  plays  a  very  brutal  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2024  album  "Enlightened  through  Darkness"  which  was  released  by  larvae  Records.

  A  very  apocalyptic  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  playing  and  synths  a  few  seconds  later  before  going  into  a  heavier  direction.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  songs  also  add  in  a  great  amount  of  brutal  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  album  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  Vocals  are  mostly  angry  sounding  black  metal  screams  while  most  of  the  tracks  are  also  very  long  and  epic  in  length.  Throughout  the  recording  you  can  also  hear  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  some  ethnic  style  chants  also  being  used  briefly,  some  of  the  brutality  also  adds  in  a  touch  of  war  metal.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  also  done  in  a  very  chaotic  style  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  also  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  most  of  the  music  is  very  heavily  rooted  in t he  modern  era.  The  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death,  destruction  and  war  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Wormthrone  are  a  very  great  sounding  brutal  black  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bringers  Of  Destruction  And  Death"  and  "Through  Pestilence  And  Holocaust".  8  out  of  10.

  A  very  fast  and  raw  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  a  great  amount  of  tremolo  picking  and  blast b eats.  Melodies  are  also  added  into  some  of  the  guitar  riffing  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal  screams  and  the  synths  also  give  the  music  more  of  an  atmospheric  feeling.

  HVNWRD.  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  atmospheric,  depressive  and  lo-fi  sounding.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  cover  darkness,  death,  madness  and  occultism  themes.

  In  my  opinion  HVNWRD.  are  a  very  great  sounding  atmospheric  and  depressive  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "A  Womb  of  Mythic  Waters"  and  "The Finality  And  Uncertainty  of  Death".  8  out  of  10.
