The Crevices Below is a 1 man project from Australia that plays a very dark, experimental and atmospheric form of black metal with a death metal edge and this is a review of their 2011 album "Below The Crevices" which was released by Nordvis Productions.
Drums range from slow, mid paced to fast drumming with a good amount of blast beats, while the synths are very dark and atmospheric with some ambient effects being utilized at times, as for the bass playing it has a very dark tone that is mixed down low in the mix and seems to follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars.
Rhythm guitars range from slow, mid paced to fast black metal riffs that are very skillful and raw with a dose of dark/doom metal being added to the riffing and on some songs there is some soft playing that uses full chords to bring an ethereal dark wave feel to the music, while the lead guitars are very melodic and ambient sounding guitar solos, as for the acoustic guitars when they are utilized they use finger picking to make the music sound more dark and tragic.
Vocals are a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and deep growls with some occasional clean singing and spoken word passages, while the lyrics cover dark and depressive themes, as for the production it has a very dark and heavy feel to it.
In my opinion The Crevices Below are a very good experimental dark/black metal that is not either too mainstream or underground sounding, and if you are looking for something different and original, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Tombs Of Subterranean' and "Trapped In Suicidal Depths". RECOMMENDED BUY.
