Grafvitnir are a band from Sweden that plays an occult form of black metal and this is a review of their 2016 album "Obeisance To A Witch Moon" which will be released on December 16th as a joint effort between Carnal Records and Daemon Worship Productions.
Thunder sounds start off the album before going into a heavier direction that also uses a great amount of melody and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard along with high pitched black metal screams being added onto the recording and the tremolo picking gives the songs a raw feeling.
Most of the music is rooted in the Swedish style of black metal and when solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the music also has a lot of 90's influences while also being modern at the same time and all of the songs stick to a heavy direction.
Grafvitnir plays a style of black metal that is very raw and melodic in the true Swedish tradition, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the darker side of the Qabalah and are also hymns to the Lightbringer, The Ancient Witch and the Goddess Hecate.
In my opinion Grafvitnir are a very great sounding raw and melodic occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lightbringer" "Nigrum Ignis Serpentem" "Children Of The Void" and "Obeisance Of The Witch Moon". 8 out of 10.
