Acedia Mundi are a band from France that plays a technical mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Speculum Hamanae Salvationis" which was released by Throats Productions.
Spoken word samples start off the album before going into more of a heavier and technical direction along with some solos and leads that display a great amount of talent and skill while atmospheric elements are also used at times and after awhile grim black metal screams make their presence known.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs a raw black metal feeling along with the riffs also using a decent amount of melody and the music also brings in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts,
A couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length and as the album progresses elements of death metal are added onto the recording and spoken word parts also return briefly on later songs along with a small amount of melodic Gregorian chants and as the album progresses more depressive and brutal elements are added onto the recording along with touches of thrash and rock music.
Acedia Mundi plays a style of black metal that is very technical while also adding in touches of thrash and death metal to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover psychoanalysis while also being inspired by the writings of Georges Bataille and Jean Genet along with the movies by Larry Clark and Harmony Korine.
In my opinion Acedia Mundi are a very great sounding technical mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ab-Jection" "From Sodom To Magog" and "Sumus Fex Dei". 8 out of 10.
