Kawir are a band from Greece that plays a very epic and pagan form of Greek black metal and this is a review of their album "Adrasteia" which will be released in 2020 by Iron Bonehead Productions.
Acoustic guitar playing and melodic pagan chanting starts off the album before going into a heavier direction while a great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style.
Spoken word parts can also be heard briefly while folk instruments are also added on a couple of tracks. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling as well as the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the music also being very heavily rooted in the old school Greek tradition but still sounding modern at the same time and as the album progresses pagan chants and acoustic also make a brief return on a couple of songs, female vocals can also be heard briefly. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in Geek and cover paganism, heroic women and the cruelty around them.
In my opinion Kawir are a very great epic sounding Greek pagan black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Tydeus" and "Medea". 8/5 out of 10.
