Terratolith are a band from the United States that plays an avant garde from of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Eclipse" which will be released in September by Brucia Records.
Avant garde soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction which also introduces grim black metal screams onto the recording. The avant garde sounds are also mixed in with the heavy parts while clean playing can also be heard in some parts of the recording.
When demonic voices and whispers are utilized they also give the music more of a ritualistic feeling. One of the tracks is also very long and epic in length while dark sounding melodies are also added into some of the riffing and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
At times the music also gets very experimental sounding along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some synths also being added into certain sections of the recording, a couple of the tracks are also instrumentals. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism themes.
In my opinion Terratolith are a very great sounding avant garde occult black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Two." "Five.Thanatomorphosis" and "Eight.Eclipse". 8 out of 10.
