Valudier are a band from Italy that plays a very raw, melodic and epic form of medieval black metal with elements of folk music and this is a review of their 2024 album "Carmina Belli Apocalypsis" which was released by Black mass Prayers.
Battle sounds and sword fights start off the album before going into more of a heavier direction while the solos and leads are also done in a very melodic style. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a great amount of blast b eats.
When tremolo picking is added into the faster riffing they also give the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era along with most of the tracks also being very long and epic in length.
At times the vocals also go into more of a deeper growing direction along with some clear singing also being added into certain sections of the recording. When wind instruments are utilized they also give the songs more of a medieval touch as well as the acoustic guitars also bringing in elements of folk music when they are introduced on the album, all of the drum beats are also programmed. A few tracks also add in a small amount of female vocals and one song also adds in a brief use of spoken word parts. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover the dark ages, warfare and anti religion themes.
In my opinion Valudier are a very great sounding raw, melodic, epic and folk music inspired medieval black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Under The Skies Of Gehenna" "As The Shadows Pass The Days" and "In The Sign of The Stygian Watchers". 8/5 out of 10.
