Diespnea are a duo from Italy that has had music reviewed before in t his zine and on this recording goes for a very experimental and avant garde form of black metal and this is a review of their album "Radici" which will be released in 2026 by Code666.
Melodic guitar solos and leads start off the album which also takes the music into more of a heavier and atmospheric direction. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the clear singing also takes the music into more of an avant garde direction when it is utilized and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the album more of a raw feeling and spoken words can also be heard on a few songs.
Synths are also added into certain sections of the recording along with the songs also adding in a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. At times the album also goes into more of an experimental direction and clean playing is also added towards the end. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in Italian and cover existence, human emotion and the dark recesses of the soul.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Diespna and if you are a fan of experimental and avant garde black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Maskharah" "Radici" and "Osedax". 8 out of 10.
