1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Negative: It's not so much that I can tell about the band, than you can find in metal-archives for example. The main core of the band was always we two, and we never met before we created LD. After few rehearsals we understood that we are on the same wave, have similar visions and can work together without problems.
Vomh: Our music embodies our disappointment, sociopathy and decay. Death is a main concept which we explore through music.
2.How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recordings?
Negative: It is not "avangarde" "symphonic"or another type of "Enter your label here" black metal. In my opinion it neither is "raw" black metal.
3.You released a demo in 2007 and for 7 years there was no new material, can you tell us a little bit more about the gap in between releases?
Negative: The fact that we didn't made any records doesn't mean that there was no new material. The songs that was recorded for "Escape" was decided to be "Escape" songs. We have many songs written, but we aren't satisfied with it's quality and think that this material need to be "polished", you know.. We don't feel that these songs can be released right now. The fact that all songs was written in different periods made them sound different, that also is little challenge. Some of those can be released as single, some can stay as poetry but music deleted.
About the gap.. We was split-up for 7 years and LD was put on hold. I decided to record these songs as one man band, and then we meet at pub.
Shortly - alcohol is not only reason of many people births but also projects births and rebirths :)
4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subject the band explores with the music?
Negative: In "early Last Decline" that you hear on "Escape", the main topics was death, hate, suicide, isolation, misanthropy. New songs has also nihilism in lyrics.
Vomh: Happy Meal consists of: Death, mental wanderings and misanthropy.
5.Originally the band was called 'Ohrwurm' what was the cause of the name change and also what is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Last Decline'?
Negative: I don't remember all this so bright right now, but I think that there wasn't any meaning in this.. The only meaning was that Ohrwurm name was stupid, i think..
Vomh: Ohrwurm was something strange and still unexplored so we changed name for our black vomit to more poetic Last Decline. It refers to something inevitably dying, so it’s totally gorgeous.
6. Currently there are only 2 members in the band, are you planning on expanding the line up in the future or do you chose to remain a duo?
Negative: We two are on the same wawe. As you can see from metal-archives there was some people with us during LD existence, but for some reasons they left the band. With bass players there was separate problem - that's the reason band never had bassist before I took bass in my hands.
Vomh: We consciously choose to remain ‘’a duo’’ as we find it to be the best way to work within Last Decline. But we are open for partial or session involvement of other musicians if our music demands it.
7.The album was released on 'Beverina Productions', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Vomh: This is underground music label mainly focusing on black / death / pagan metal bands. We find this label highly reliable.
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
Negative: We actually was surprised to read first review on karametals.lv and then in your Zine. Both was rated high - 9/10 and 8/10. I assume that there is not much people that heard something about us worldwide, but if someone find something good in the music we create - it means that goal is achieved.
Vomh: We have few true fans from the beginning and i find it quite a lot.
9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Negative: I can not see the particular direction. We will continue with our experiments during rehersals and write those parts that we assume are cool.
The new songs that was written in 2016 sound's little bit different, but I can not say that it is no longer LD.
Vomh: There is no light in the grave.
10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Negative: At the "Demo" times it was Nargaroth, Lucifugum(UKR), The True Mayhem etc.. It is various metal music genres I listening to nowadays. Main playlist consists of Xasthur, Leviathan, Vanhelga, Apati, Ofdrykkja, Lifelover, Lyrinx.
Vomh: I’m not sure what to say about influence. On the other hand it’s banal to name all protagonists of so called 2nd wave black metal phenomenon in the nineties again and fucking again. Our aim is to get away from all influences and ‘’scenes’’ except ourselves to create individualistic music. There is too much visual based and fake ‘’metal’’ and ‘’rockstar’’ attitude towards music in which we are not interested as we are not interested to entertain public or to be part of scene.
At this moment while I’m answering your questions I’m listening to FDS - Spopielone Słońce.
There is no need for a wider name dropping.
11.What are some of your non musical interests?
Negative: WW2 history.
Vomh: Anti-urbanism.
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
