Tomhet are a solo project from Alberta, Canada that plays an ambient form of black metal and this is a review of his 2016 ep "Extinction In Time-Lapse" which was released by Grey Matter Productions.
Field recordings start off the ep along with some ambient keyboards and soundscapes a few seconds later and after the intro the music goes into a heavier direction along with some melodic guitar leads and the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams while the drum beats sound programmed and the music is atmospheric.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw black metal feeling along with the music mixing the ambient and heavy parts together and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and drones along with noises are also utilized briefly and there is also a brief use of melodic guitar leads and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are presented on the recording and the last track is all instrumental.
Tomhet plays a musical style that takes atmospheric black metal and mixes it with ambient and drone to create a sound of his own, the production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover depression, death, despair, and nature themes.
In my opinion Tomhet are a very great sounding ambient black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Extinction In Time-Lapse" and "This Failing Spieces". 8 out of 10.
