Netra are a band originally from France but now re-located to Norway and plays a mixture of depressive black metal, trip hop and ambient and this is a review of their 2017 album "Ingrats" which will be released in March by Hypnotic Dirge Records.
Trip hop sounds start off the album along with some keyboards that add in a touch of jazz and after the intro the music goes into a very fast and raw musical direction that uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking along with some depressive black metal screams while also introducing melodic guitar leads onto the recording.
Ambient elements also mix in with the heavier sections of the music along with clean guitars also being added into some parts of the songs and you can also hear a decent amount of melody in the guitar riffing and the music also gets very experimental and avant garde at times and some tracks also bring in a small amount of melodic vocals.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and some tracks also add in touches of post rock and you can also hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording while some of the tracks are all instrumental and there is also a brief use of acoustic guitars and as the album progresses saxophones are also used briefly along with a small amount of spoken word parts.
Netra plays a musical style that takes depressive black metal and mixes it with trip hop, ambient, industrial and avant garde to create something very original, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover life, urbanity, solitude, and self reflection themes.
In my opinion Netra are a very great sounding mixture of depressive black metal, trip hop, and ambient and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Everything's Fine" "Infinite Boredom" "Paris Or Me" and "Jusqu 'au-boutiste". 8 out of 10.
