Adzalaan are a solo project from Portland, Oregon that plays a mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of his 2018 album "Into Vermillion Mirrors" which was be released in April as a joint effort between Invictus Productions and Vrasubatlat.
Atmospheric sounding synths start off the album along with some melodic riffing a few seconds later while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the songs a more raw feeling and the vocals are a mixture black metal screams and bestial growls.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while some of the faster sections of the songs add in a small touch of war metal and there is also a brief interlude being returning back to a heavier direction along with the guitar leads being done in a very melodic and dissonant fashion when they are utilized as well as a brief use of clean playing on the closing track.
Adzalaan plays a musical style that takes the raw, modern and dissonant forms of black metal and mixes them with death metal to create a sound of his own, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover isolation, claustrophobia and purgation themes.
In my opinion Adzalaan is a very great sounding mixture of black and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "False Cleansing" and "Vermillion In Abstentia". 8 out of 10.
